Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space. To be fair, when confronted with the sheer enormity of the distances between stars, better minds than the one responsible for this introduction have faltered. Some invite you to consider for a moment a peanut in Reading and a small walnut in Johannesburg, and other such dizzying concepts. The simple truth is that interstellar distances will not fit into the human imagination. Even light, which travels so fast that it takes most races thousands of years to realize that it travels at all, takes time to journey between stars. It takes eight minutes to journey from the star Sol to the place where the Earth used to be, and four years to arrive at Sol's nearest stellar neighbour, Alpha Proxima. For light to reach the other side of the Galaxy, for it to reach Damogran for instance, takes rather longer: five hundred thousand years. The record for hitch hiking this distance is just under five years, but you don't get to see much on the way. If you hold a lungful of air you can survive in the total vacuum of space for about thirty seconds. The trouble is that space's mindboggling size causes the chances of getting picked up by another ship within those thirty seconds are two to the power of two hundred and seventy-six thousand seven hundred and nine to one (2276,709 : 1) against. The Guide is a very unevenly edited book and contains many passages that simply seemed to it's editors like a good idea at the time. . .: .:: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::::::::: : ::: : : :::::: : :::::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: :' ' o [ !ntroduct!on - personal ] Darkness, imprisoned me until the dawn mist started glowing. Uncommon structures of man standing there in the twilight. Colossus metal beasts appear out of the fading night. Bodies like titanium controlled by lotek warriors heading towards you. Metallic uproars disturb the silence of daybreak. You follow the light that glows to your bedroom window... tonight... tonight... the fading twilight... there are musics in the dark... Was it too dramatic yet? Hello to all of you out there! You are holding right now in your hands, the first volume of the FADING TWILIGHT CD SERIES. This series covers everything concerning atari music (no matter what system). Music from atari demos, music from atari games and music made by atari demoscene musicians all over the world! Prepare yourself for pure scenism! I tried to keep this CD as Atari-compatible as possible! I tried to make sure that a normal ST user can listen to most of the tunes (except MP3). I also tried to avoid DOUBLES! That means, several tunes were used in several different demos or productions and I tried not to include them twice or more. Unfortunatly for PC users is that there are several formats that are Atari Falcon only, such as MGT and FLX. Nobody wrote a player for PC for them yet. I said YEEEEET!! [[hint! hint!]]. Unfortunatly for humble Atari users is that there might be problems with long filenames... I tried to avoid most of them but for MP3's it's very comfortable and i didn't want to change all of those... same goes for the YM tunes from ST Sound Pleasuredome. If some musicians have done the music for games or demos, then you will find this music in the folder of the musician and NOT the games or demos folder. I thought very very long about this... I was twisted... TWISTED TWILIGHT! I also included lotsa Amiga game mods from games that appeared on the ST but had lousy chipsound (the ones NOT made by Mad Max of course ;-) instead of those digital tunes... Now you can listen to the sound you've missed in the past. Some people told me already this would make the result unstraight and washy, but I don't care man! Why did atarians also collect those game tunes from Amiga? I don't think because they hated it... so do you know what Twilight means, eh? Hm, somehow this is going to be the greatest module compilation ever! So guess what this is? A new world record in the Atari scene... and remember this CD is NOT created to raise money and rip people off! It is a perfect gem that is made -FROM- the scene -FOR- the scene and the whole shit may be FREELY COPIED as often as you want! Spread it around the world!!! SPREADING TWILIGHT! Most of the things we do for the scene, we do for fame! So why should I lie to you? Yes! I do it for FAME! I do it for the fame of my name and for my group. I wanna leave an eternal digital fragment in this world, heard by the next generations long when I'm gone. I do it for the egotrip. I do it for the money and the chicks! (ehm, just kidding guys :-) ...) KIDDING TWILIGHT! . .: .:: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::::::::: : ::: : : :::::: : :::::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: :' ' o [composer selection excerpt one] Pseudo, Crew, Realname, Country, Email, homepage -7an, Sync, Juan Irming, Sweden, 7an@sync.st, http://www.sync.st -Cedyn, Shadows aka Goaman, Marcin Czartynski, Poland, cedyn@amber.bti.pl, ftp://ae.pl/scene/distro/monar/music/goaman or ftp://ae.pl/scene/distro/monar/lonplays/goaman-promotional demo -!Cube, Aggression^Trauma^Recreation^SCS*TRC^Scallop, Toni Lönnberg, Finland, tlonnber@cs.helsinki.fi, http://db.cs.helsinki.fi/~tlonnber/ -Djamm, EKO^EXA^Bomb^Level-d^Sunlikamelo-d, Reynald Deliens, France, djamm@club-internet.fr or djamm@planet-d.net, http://www.error-404.com/djam/ -Dma Sc, Sector One, Mathieu Stempell, France, dma-sc@wanadoo.fr, http://sectorone.atari.org -Energizer, Lazer, Harald Riegler, Austria, e9327376@stud1.tuwien.ac.at http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9327376/harald.htm -Fried, Avena, Martin Friedel, Germany, fried@avena.com, http://www.avena.com -Front 6, Absence.de, Sören Gessele, Germany, s_gessele@mail.netwave.de, n/a -MC Laser, tSCc, Stefan Benz, Germany, mc_laser@atari.org, http://tscc.atari.org -Moonshine, Admirables, Janne Husu, Finland, n/a, n/a -MSG, Reservoir Gods, Malcolm Grant, UK, MSG@atari.org, http://www.sherwood-hotel.freeserve.co.uk/MSG/ -Ripguy, Risk, Chris Corrado, Germany, ripguy@reutlingen.netsurf.de, http://www2.bytecom.net/risk/home.html -Rubbish, Zeal, Robert Kreese, Sweden, robert.kreese@home.se, n/a -Stax, Lazer, Peter Steinkellner, Austria, p.steinkellner@netway.at, http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9327376/harald.htm -Tommy, Avena, Tommy Jaenicke, Germany, none (RIP+), http://www.avena.com -Viking, Mind Design, Johan Andre, Sweden, johan.andre@musiker.nu, n/a . .: .:: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::::::::: : ::: : : :::::: : :::::: ::: ::: ::: ::: ::: :' ' [ o leGends nEVER dIE! ] 4CHANNEL = Folders entitled with that name are including simple Protracker 4-channel modules known from the Amiga (M.K.) 6CHANNEL = These folders include 6 Channel OCTALYSER STE modules 8CHANNEL = These folders include 8 Channel OCTALYSER STE modules FLEXTRAX = Here you will find 4/8 channel modules composed on Flextrax, a Atari Falcon Tracker by New Beat Development (FALCON 030) S3M = Screamtracker 3 modules (PC).
