The object of the game is to complete several missions in the shortest time. You need a joystick to play, after booting the game, and typing in your name you will be ready to begin. To navigate around is the hardest thing to do. The best I can explain it is on the indictor (a line on the indictor dial on the lower left of the control board)you place it opposite of the way you want to go. The Keyboard commands that are need are as follows: A - to land on a plant, be careful you will crash if you try to land at to high of a speed. Try about 300 mph or less. Also the CROSS HAIR MUST be FLASHING in order to land. R - Is the map, also where you plot your course. B - To lift off from the plant you landed on. H - Sets engine to high power, good for long distance travel, after reaching a high enough speed you will go into hyper space-The fastest way to travel. L - Sets engine power to low, good for short distances and when trying to land. SPACE BAR - This is your brake use it to slow down, you must push and let go and push again to slow down. Holding it has no effect. Start up: Boot the disk. After you have read the initial screens, use the stick to select a blank line. Press the button then type in the name you want to use as a pilot and press RETURN. Choose your mission by moving the asterisk with the joystick and pressing the button. You must start at the Raven mission. You can repeat a mission you have already completed to better your time. Read the screen to find out your destination. It will be a planet or a moon. Use the radar screen and the Star Map to determine where your destination is and how to get there. Navigate your way to and then land on it. Once you've landed, follow the directions on the screen. Press B to blast off to your new destination. The Control Panel: Viewing Screen-you can observe all of space around you through this screen. To see different views, come to a complete stop and then change your field of vision. Direction Pointer-Shows the direction you're moving. If you're moving toward a planet or moon shown on the main screen, the pointer will be up at the top of the dial. When you are moving away from an object it will be at the bottom. Planet/Moon Finder-This is the marked area in the center of the main screen. The four marked corners will light up when a planet or moon comes within range. Planet/Moon Indicator-As you approach an object and it becomes clearer, its name and your distance from it will appear here. Power Meter-Your ship has two power levels, low and high. High is best for traveling great distances. Low gives you more control and is helpful when you are maneuvering for a landing. Press 'L' to select low and 'H' for high. Speed-Watch your speed. If you go too fast you could overshoot your target. When you reach 300,000 km/s you jump into hyperspace. Timer-keeps track of how long it takes you to complete the mission. It doesn't run when your speed is 0 km/s. Using the control panel: To move in a direction-push the stick in that direction. The longer you hold the stick in that direction the faster you will go. To jump into hyperspace-increase your speed to 300,000 km/s. Once in hyper-space, your speed is reported in gigameters per second. (1 gigameter=one million kilometers) To Slow down or Stop-Press the space bar. In hyperspace this brings you to an immediate stop, otherwise each press of the space bar cuts your speed by half. To change your field of vision-Stop the ship, press the button and move the stick left or right. NOTE: this will not change the direction in which you are traveling. To Select power level-press 'H' for high and 'L' for low. To engage automatic landing system-press "A". you can land only when the planet/moon finder is blinking and beeping. To land on Halley's comet, fly into it. To blast off again press 'B'. To see the radar screen-Press 'R' Using the radar screen: Your ship is located at the center of the radar screen. To zoom in push up on the stick. To zoom out pull back. To return to the controls press 'R'. When you zoom out you see the entire solar system and zooming in shows a small area. Navigating: Press 'R' to see the radar screen. At the beginning of each mission a message appears telling you your destination. The message may specify the destination or it may only give you a clue. As soon as you embark on a mission, you will see Halley's Comet on the screen. The ship is always moving away from the comet as the mission begins. Move away from the comet about 600,000 km. Now use the radar screen to determine where your destination is and begin flying towards it. The Sun is always the brightest dot on the radar. To identify a planet, count the dots away from the sun. (i.e. Earth is #3, Mars #4, etc.) Once you've located the destination zoom out until it is located at the edge of the radar. Note the constellation it is next to and the distance. Use an encyclopedia or a star map to help you find and locate constellations. Start flying toward your destination. Once you are close to a planet (20 to 30 gigameters) press the space bar to brake. Move slowly towards the constellation where your destination is located. Orbiting and Landing: Each planet or moon has two landing areas, one on the bright side and one on the dark side. You must be within 100,000 km to land. Center the destination in the planet/moon finder and move toward it at low power. You will begin to orbit the destination when you are 100,000 or closer. The planet/moon finder will flash and beep when you are above a landing area. When you see the landing area, press 'A'. The ship will automatically land. You will see a message telling you which planet or moon you've landed on and also your next destination will be described. Press any key to see a picture of the planet or moon you've landed on. Plan your course to your next stop, then press 'B' to take off. Final notes: To re-start press START when you are not using the radar screen or when you are not landed on a planet or moon. The names and records can be erased by holding down OPTION and pressing 'I'.
